How long until I am conversational/fluent?

While we understand why this question is asked, it’s a difficult question to answer.

Any company that promises to make you fluent within a specific time frame is being dishonest. We prefer to set realistic expectations for students.

So, how long will it take to become fluent with SpanishVIP? It depends.

Your Speed to Learn Depends on Many Factors

Some students are gifted at languages, while others are not. It’s nothing to feel bad about if you don’t ‘get’ languages as fast as other people!

We have worked with students who go from beginner to intermediate within weeks or months. We have worked with other students who take 3-6 months before they begin feeling comfortable with having conversations.

Some factors that may affect your timeline include:

• Your natural ability to learn languages
• Your level of confidence and willingness to go outside of your comfort zone
• Your dedication to learning Spanish, inside and outside of the classroom
• Open and transparent communication with your teacher
• Supplementary practice to your classes

We will do everything within our power to ensure your program is as effective as possible. Our student success team will be there every step of the way to support you.

However, some of the above factors are out of our control. Learning a new language requires that you be bold. For those who aren’t gifted at learning languages, it requires significant, consistent effort and humility. If you’re scared to fail, you’ll never get the practice you need to speak in the real world.

When working with your teacher, it’s also important to have prompt and transparent communication. We know how to read between the lines, but accomplishing your goals takes teamwork. Be honest with us when you feel stuck, don’t like certain activities, etc. In doing so, you’ll help direct your teacher to gear your lessons around the learning style that's most effective for you. 

Separately, taking the initiative to practice in the real world with language exchanges or meetups; or supplementing your in-class practice with apps, courses, movies, and music will help push you forward much faster.
