We are happy to accommodate pausing your subscription, for any reason. This comes at no extra cost.
All SpanishVIP private tutoring and group class subscriptions can be paused for up to 6 consecutive months. After 6 consecutive months have elapsed, your subscription will become active again (regardless of if you begin taking classes or not).
Important Notes for Pausing Private Subscriptions:
- We do not provide full pauses under 2 weeks. This means that 1-month subscriptions are not eligible for any subscription pauses. If you wish to stop classes for 1-2 weeks, your subscription will remain active from a billing standpoint. If you are on a tutoring subscription, your teacher will take advantage of their free time to create new custom lessons and activities for you to use when you return, ensuring you have the best classes possible!
- If pausing your private classes subscription for a period of longer than two weeks, we will pause the billing cycle. However, it is important to note that we may immediately reassign your dedicated teacher to another student. We cannot guarantee you will have access to the same teacher when you return; but if we can, we will. Especially if you are willing to be flexible with your schedule!
- If you will not be attending classes for more than 2 weeks but want to ensure you keep your dedicated teacher locked in, you can indefinitely suspend your classes and reserve your teacher. Your billing will remain active and your teacher will focus their time on the activities mentioned in point #1. This allows our students to get an even more white-glove experience with curriculum material and not compromise on their choice of teachers. We can also shift to providing more, custom self-study material during times when your schedule cannot permit studying 1-1 with your dedicated teacher.
- You are allowed to pause your subscription billing cycle for up to 6 consecutive months. With that being said, we are only able to accommodate 2 separate subscription pauses per year with private tutoring students. Each pause must be at least 2 months apart (IE: If your last pause ended and you resumed classes as of January 1st, you will have to wait until March 1st to be eligible to pause again).
- Subscriptions with under 6 weeks of remaining private tutoring do not qualify for pauses. You are welcome to extend your subscription, in this case, so that you can qualify for a pause!
- Pauses do not apply for any special discount pricing on group classes. We may provide pauses if you have received a special offer on our tutoring, but this requires advanced approval with our Student Success team and would only apply to extreme cases.
In some cases, you may be able to resume classes with your dedicated teacher upon reactivating your subscription. We always work as hard as possible to ensure you are assigned (or reassigned) to the teacher you like best and feel most comfortable with.
However, we cannot guarantee you will return to your previous dedicated teacher after a subscription pause. In the event that you will be reassigned to another teacher, we will do everything in our power to ensure you love your new teacher just as much as the previous teacher.
Why There Are Limitations on Private Subscription Pauses
Each time a student pauses their private subscription, we incur steep losses via salary costs because our teachers sit idle with no work. As we know that our students need flexibility, we will never suspend your ability to request a subscription pause. We do, however, need to be careful with how many pauses we allow.
As SpanishVIP students have come to expect very high-quality teachers at an affordable price point, it is essential that we conserve our resources so we can pay our professional staff. If we allowed any pause, any time, we would have significantly less freedom with salaries, and we would not be able to hire the best teachers possible.
Group class subscriptions have more freedom in pauses because it has less of an impact on our operations.

Group Classes Cancellations
If you scheduled a group class and won't be able to attend, don't worry. Our classes nearly never run at full capacity, so canceling your reserved spot or notifying our team isn't necessary. However, we would appreciate if you would cancel your attendance via our scheduling system. This helps our teachers better prepare for classes and free up spots for other students if we are near capacity! Thank you.
For group classes, our team reserves the right to infrequently cancel select classes for administrative purposes, the health of our teachers, etc. As a result of our policy, internally canceled classes will have no material effect on your subscription. We do our best to ensure you receive the absolute minimum in terms of class schedule interruption so that you can study on your own terms!
For Private Classes
We encounter two different kinds of cancellations for private classes students.
Private Classes Canceled by a Student
If you need to cancel a class for any reason, just try to notify your teacher so that they can spend this time working productively on more of your customized curriculum material. If you were responsible for the class cancellation, rescheduling your lost class will only be possible if your teacher has time available in their schedule.
Any lost time from canceled classes will not be added to your subscription as, unfortunately, our set costs do not change when you do not attend classes with your dedicated teacher. To inquire about rescheduling a class, simply contact your teacher to ask if they have time available!
Private Classes Canceled by a Teacher
Our dedicated teachers sometimes have internet problems (rarely), get sick, or have other important personal matters to attend to (especially due to covid-19). We do our absolute best to only internally cancel classes in extenuating circumstances.
In the case of teachers canceling a class, we are often able to accommodate compensating students by rescheduling a class. Just contact your teacher to see if they have availability around your schedule and we'll do our best to recoup any canceled classes!
These canceled classes typically do not result in any time retroactively added to your subscription. The assistance we can provide is to reschedule your classes, if possible, during your active subscription period.
Group Classes Discounts
In most cases, sales on group classes are for first-time students only. This is our way to provide students with an affordable way to test out our service for a longer period than a typical trial.
- Group classes subscriptions may not be purchased at a sale rate to extend your subscription if a discounted subscription was purchased previously
- Group classes subscriptions that are purchased at a discounted rate will activate immediately and can not be paused to commence at a later date
